Burning Man is on our bucket list. Watching this amazing drone footage of this year’s event, I cannot wait to tick this one off the list.
But, just what is Burning Man? It’s hard to explain. As they confirm on the official Burning Man site:
“trying to explain what Burning Man is to someone who has never been to the event is a bit like trying to explain what a particular color looks like to someone who is blind.”
“Burning Man, a week-long annual event, that began in San Francisco’s Baker Beach and migrated to the Black Rock Desert in northern Nevada, in the United States. The event begins on the last Monday in August, and ends on the first Monday in September, which coincides with the American Labor Day holiday. It takes its name from the ritual burning of a large wooden effigy, which is set alight on Saturday evening. The event is described as an experiment in community, art, radical self-expression, and radical self-reliance.”
I don’t get it. But I do want to go. Travel, for me, is all about new experiences and letting go of old beliefs, expectations and being bound by society’s expectation of “normal”.
